O’Connor, an alumna of the college and a resident of Milledgeville during much of her writing career, wrote stories of small southern towns located among rural fields much like her hometown. Georgia College has a significant archive of O’Connor material in their library collection as well as oversight of Andalusia, Home of Flannery O’Connor that is currently a public museum. This program is a Summer Institute for Higher Education Faculty. LEARN MORE ABOUT THE APPLICATION PROCESS INTERESTED IN ATTENDING? Application process is now closed. APPLY HERE MEET OUR FACULTY Andalusia Institute is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. John Lowe, one of the stalwarts of Southern Literature. Dr. Lowe was a great friend of the Andalusia Institute, a noted Southern literature scholar, and most recently served as an instructor in the NEH-sponsored Flannery O’Connor Institute. His last known public lecture, Flannery O’Connor’s Use of Humor,” was given at GCSU and can be found here . Finally, although he is a renowned scholar who recently retired from UGA, Dr. Lowe should be known, first and foremost as a teacher and mentor. He was always quick to promote and support his students, was active in the Society for the Study of Southern literature, and was always encouraging students to study Southern literature. Dr. Lowe will be greatly missed.
